“It is better to be vaguely right than precisely wrong.”

Researching and analyzing complex data is an everyday practice for me. This requires deep thinking (the researcher in me) but also translating complexity into practical knowledge (the policy professional in me) necessary to create a world where I am more ‘vaguely right’ and less ‘precisely wrong’. Amartya Sen’s work on Justice, Development, and Capabilities’ has inspired me to humble myself to collaborate and learn from the vulnerable people I seek to support, rather than impose ‘expertise’ onto them.

I have spent many years walking with, learning from, and advocating for change of gender unequal circumstances for women, men, and children experiencing poverty in subsistence marketplaces. As an academic, I have distilled these learnings into my teaching across several subjects including “Social Justice, Social Citizenship and Social Work”, “Global Education and Poverty” and “Gender, Development, and Microfinance”. As a policy professional, I have consulted with Banks, Government, Non-government organizations, and peak bodies with policy development and advocacy on financial wellbeing, gendered financial inclusion, and poverty alleviation.

My work is underpinned by a passion to be a voice for the voiceless, and Mahatma Gandhi’s quote best encapsulates my ethos ‘Be the change that you want to see in the world’.
